Greetings FromLarkhall Park, SW8, to paraphrase Springsteen. A warm welcome to any American friends who might have stumbled across this site thanks to a little help from CNN and NBC. You're more than welcome to have a look around and see what London life is really like. And remember Mr CNN and NBC - please TELL IT LIKE IT IS.
I know very little of London outside of the Brixton Triangle (Camberwell - Clap'ham - Brixton). Please don't desert me thinking that all Londoners engage in street drinking, latte loving or just general Brixton buzzing off yer tits.
London really is LOVELY
If it's the South East that takes your fancy then forget Hugh Grant - Inspector Sands is your man. More of an East End Boy? Allow Diamond Geezer to give you a right old knees up; Huw has North London covered, Pix is the Pics Queen and if you want to revert to South London stereotypes of Brixton binge drinking, you could always join Smacked Face down in the gutter, darling. If you're still not making sense of Sunny Stockwell, Gia can give you the American perspective on life in SW8.
We're a very friendly community and the events of the past 24 hours will only enhance the way that we see and experience our fantastic city. Feel free to look around the picture links to your right hand side to get a feel for us. Email me personally if you would like a more 'intimate' feel.
London experiences pollution, crime and yesterday, the death of ordinary people on their way to work. But would I move away? Is President Bush a knobber? Time Out London is packed full of hundreds of weekly events that I somehow think you'd be struggling to experience if you lived in Tunbridge Wells. It's also full of pointless lifestyle articles, but that's just to please the North London crowd.
Last weekend our city managed to host the Wimbledon finals (where an American won), an England Vs Australiacricket (just don't ask) one day match as well as the small matter of a little pop concert in central London. Did you see the Floyd? Did you? Oooh - nasty MTV...
All events were trouble free, and we look forward to similar good times this weekend with yet more cricket and the world famous Sunny Stockwell Festival (apparently an up and coming photographer is nervously exhibiting his work for the first time).
London really is LOVELY - please come and visit us sometime. We're having a bit of a get together seven years from now. If you can't wait that long then I'll even be your personal guide if you want to watch some top London sporting action. Dulwich Hamlet are a *cough* major franchise English football team (well, we are about to be bought) and I know a man who can get you the Best Seats in the House.
Oh yeah, and PLEASE get your NHL situation sorted out. I'm heading your way hopefully by the end of the year.
Plus:
*ahhh*
We don't know anyone in London personally but CNN has a link to your site, so maybe you will take the time to read these few lines. I live oceans away in the Hawaiian Islands. I know that seems like we are untouched by the violence that rocked your beautiful city, but we know how much pain and shock your are feeling and we grieved with you. Here in Hawaii, we know too the loss of violence and the destruction of violence. Our hearts and prayers go out to you. We wish our all the blessings and grace in the coming months of recovery.
Maybe the few words from a world a way will not mean very much, but I hope that it will brighten the day of your community just a bit to know that we share your experience just a bit.
As you so eloquently wrote in your blog, from the ashes will rise a stronger and brighter future. Blessings to you all.
