Too hot to handle

Oh dear - I've gone and bought another bike. That's five and counting. A different ride for every day of the week. I get time off for good behaviour at the weekend and get to ride mrs onionbagblogger a bicycle of my choice.

Remember the obb bike mantra: The only barrier to multiple bike ownership is space and money. I'm halfway there.

I'll give her a good seeing to

'What complete and utter twaddle,' said the fragrant one when I attempted to justify my latest purchase over a mortgage repayment. 'You can only ride one at a time.'

Just like girlfriends, I reminded her.

Nothing too flash for the latest purchase, although I've kept it local with a hand built frame from Wilson's of Peckham, the Bike Building Capital of the World.

The latest addition to the fleet is a road bike that rides like a dream. Two chain rings, one deliberately disabled, and so I'm running off only five gears. Which is about four too many for a fixed wheel freak purist. The working ring is even bigger than Buster Gonad's bollocks, and just as prickly as well.

I took her out for a spin (the bike, not mrs obb, boom boom) on Saturday afternoon around town. We got along in grand style, heading northwards towards a deserted Farringdon, swinging left into the West End and then a sprint across to Portobello.

It's a second (or even third or fourth) hand bike and the old girl has seen some action (the bike, not...) The hard seat has cured my piles and the steel frame makes for a very unforgiving, but rewarding ride.

I love it, clocking up some top speeds and I'm full of optimism that the onionbagblog sprint from Sunny Stockwell to Tottenham Court Road is soon to be slashed to a sub fifteen minute pursuit.

The old girl's gonna have to live outside though. I'll give her a good seeing to every now and then and oil her up whenever she starts to feel a little rusty.

The bike's staying in the bedroom though.
