The continuing saga of the onionbagblog wheelie bin...
Regular readers may remember that my wheelie bin went missing at the start of the year. Lambeth Council claimed it was officially 'theft' and asked that I report the crime to the police before receiving a new bin.
I muttered something about this being utter nonsense, but duly bothered the Old Bill and obtained a crime number for the Council. I was also invited to attend a local Victim Support Group.
It was a wonderful wheelie bin, as far as wheelie bins go.
But I got over it.
The Man from the Council came to his senses and recognised the silliness of a policy that involves bringing the police in over a missing wheelie bin.
And so anyway...
The new wheelie bin arrived the following week. It too was a wonderful wheelie bin, as far as wheelie bins go. It was black and um, had two working wheels.
I didn't really get much of a chance to bond with it though - it was gone within the day. I manage to lose wheelie bins like Civil Servants manage to lose laptops. I bet whatever I store inside my wheelie bin is of more value to what is in inside the laptops as well.
More conversation followed with the Man form the Council. Under another onionbagblog local government policy suggestion, I am pleased to confirm that baby wheelie bins are now available to residents of Lambeth.
My detective skills (random theorising on par with the Nasty Party) led me to believe that it was probably cowboy builders walking away with my wheelie bins, whenever they had a pile of waste to get rid of.
My wheelie bin is rarely full, thanks to the *whisper* wonderful re-cycling service offered by Lambeth Council. It makes sense for a not so ethical cowboy builder bloke to walk off with a half-empty bin than one bursting up to the brim.
The Man from the Council agreed, and he very kindly offered to provide me with a baby wheelie bin, which duly arrived this morning. It's a cute little thing on wheels that look slightly vulnerable out there in the big bad world of cowboy builders. If my little baby goes missing then I definitely will be putting my name down for victim support.
To lose one wheelie bin is unfortunate; to lose two is carelessness. But to lose three? That's just rubbish.
